Question

Do study groups actually help for the bar exam or are they a waste of time?

Two people from law school have asked me to join theirs (we did study togehter in 1l-3l) but I have never really studied well in groups but I also do not want to be the person who turned down help and then failed so there is that. Heard different things so asking here

Depends entirely what the group is for. A group that reads together is a waste of an evening. A group that does a timed block separately and then compares wrong answers for half an hour is worth a lot.

Ours was the second kind and it was the only social contact I had in October, which mattered more than the studying did honestly.

Mine turned into a two hour chat about articling every single week. Lovely people, zero studying. Know yourself.

One thing a group is properly good for that nobody mentions: someone else explaining a topic you have read four times and still do not get. Ten minutes of that beat two hours of rereading for me.
