What tab colour system do you use for your index?
I am six colours deep and I have started forgetting what two of them mean.
Tell me your system. Or tell me systems are a waste of time and one colour is fine, I would also accept that.

Three colours, no more. One for where a section starts, one for anything with a deadline or a number in it, one for checklists and procedures.
Six is how you end up needing a colour key, and if you need a key you have built a second thing to memorise.
Going down to three. The deadlines and numbers one is a good call, that is the category I panic about.
two here. one for "this is where the topic starts" and one for "this specific thing is fiddly and i will get it wrong". the second category is the useful one
The "I will get this wrong" tab is underrated. Mine are the ones I actually reach for. The topic tabs I mostly find without looking.
Counterpoint from the chaos end. No colour system at all, every tab the same, everything alphabetical in the index and I just look it up.
I suspect colour systems help people who think spatially and do nothing for the rest of us. Worth working out which you are before you spend a Sunday on it.
whatever you do, do it before you are 200 pages in. i recoloured mine in week 6 and lost a whole day to it
