Can you do the practice exams on your phone?
commute is 40 minutes each way and i would rather use it than not. does the exam work on a phone or is it laptop only

It works on a phone, and the flashcards are built for exactly that kind of gap.
For a full timed exam we would still suggest a laptop, and not for technical reasons. The day itself is paper, and practising in a format that is nothing like it teaches your hands the wrong habits. A commute is better spent on flashcards, and the timed runs are worth doing properly at a desk.

The train flashcards thing carried about a third of my memorisation, seconding this.
